Hi, I’m Darren, and music has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve been fascinated by the patterns and tones of the piano since I was a kid, spending hours learning songs by ear and writing my own tunes. In my teens, I fell in love with drumming, which led me to jazz college and eventually a professional music career that spanned several years. When I started a family and transitioned into the business world, music had to take a back seat, but about four years ago, I rediscovered my passion for piano. I’ve been practicing every day, learning from incredible teachers and musicians, and now I have the privilege of performing regularly with some of the finest artists in Calgary.

Starting "Duo Sessions" has been a way to combine my two biggest passions—music and people. I’ve always been drawn to creative individuals, especially musicians, and I’ve been fortunate to work with many talented artists throughout my life, since I started playing drums in church at age 12. This podcast is about celebrating the extraordinary talent in Calgary, across Canada, and beyond. It’s really just an opportunity to invite my friends over for a jam session and a chat, and to share the magic of music and conversation with all of you.
